4 Common Questions For Laser Tattoo Removal
Do you have a tattoo you want to get removed? We’re here to help. At Moran Laser & Salon in Nashville, our laser specialists help people remove unwanted tattoos and hairs every day, and our tattoos are our specialty! In fact, our founder, Jason Moran, has had multiple tattoos removed by laser and knows exactly what you’re going through. We strive to make the decision and process of removing a tattoo as easy and painless as possible, so that you can move on with your life more confident in your skin. In today’s blog, we’re going to discuss some of the most common questions and concerns about laser tattoo removal!
How Does Laser Tattoo Removal Work?
Laser tattoo removal works by directing pulses of laser light harmlessly through the top layer of your skin, the epidermis, to target specific areas of tattoo pigment. The laser breaks up your tattoo pigment into smaller particles that can then be removed naturally by your body’s immune system.
At Moran Laser & Spa, we use precise lasers that don’t damage the surface layer of your skin while targeting your tattoo. We can even remove precise parts of an existing tattoo without removing the whole thing! If you have a tattoo that you love, but that has parts that bother you, we can work around the other parts of your tattoo to remove them!
Does It Matter If My Tattoo Has A Lot Of Colors?
No, we use state-of-the-art laser tattoo removal equipment that can remove practically any color! Darker colors may require more treatments to get fully removed than other colors, but we’re confident we can remove any tattoo, no matter the color.
Will My Tattoo Be Gone After One Treatment?
No. Most of our patients have required an average of between two to eight treatments to get their tattoos fully removed. There are several factors that determine how many treatments your specific tattoo will require in order to be fully removed.
Some of our patients have reported that their tattoos have not looked removed, and even looked darker in some cases, after their first treatment. This can be frustrating to notice, but it’s completely natural. Your body will take some time to remove the tattoo pigment particles after treatment, and everyone’s body will respond differently. This is one of the reasons why some tattoos require more treatments than others to be removed.
Are There Any Limitations After Treatment?
There’s no recovery requirements or other limitations after surgery, you should just cover your treated area to ensure it doesn’t get rubbed, scratched, or sunburned. Laser tattoo removal is one of the least painful methods of tattoo removal, but we manage your discomfort during the treatment to ensure you an easy removal process. Of the 7,000 and counting laser tattoo removals we’ve performed, we have never had a patient complain that the treatment was too painful.
You will receive some basic aftercare instructions from the laser technician that treats you. If you follow them well, you’re unlikely to see any scarring once your tattoo is fully removed!
Unfortunately, you should not seek another laser tattoo removal treatment until at least six weeks after your previous one, no matter how healed your skin looks or feels. The six-week time frame between treatments is not to give your skin time to heal, it is to give your body’s immune system time to expel the broken-up particles of tattoo pigment. If you seek treatments more frequently, all you’re doing is breaking up pigment particles that your body has yet to expel naturally. In essence, it’s a waste of money to seek treatments any more frequently than every six weeks.
